FAQ
1. Why is BRP introducing new rules to use its products?
With BRP's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, we are engaged through the Product Safety pillar to promote the responsible use of our products. The certification program is in line with BRP's safety and operational recommendations to consumers. We are ambassadors for our products and our company; it stands to reason that we walk the talk.
2. Why do I have to complete this certification?
BRP is implementing this Ride Safely program to manage how employees and non-employees use BRP-owned products. The certification program is in line with BRP's safety and operational recommendations to consumers.
3. I've been riding these products for 20 years. Why do I need to be certified?
BRP is an innovative company that develops new technologies and new processes every year. As ambassadors for our products and our company, it stands to reason that we must stay up-to-date with the recommended safety precautions that may evolve over time.
4. What does this certification involve?
Employees need to read identified sections of the operator's guide and watch the safety video for the BRP-owned product they are planning to use. Employees must also ensure they possess the appropriate licenses and training where legally required in their area.
5. How long will it take?
Each product's online certification should take about an hour.
6. Do I really need to be certified for each product?
Yes. Each product has specific safety and operating instructions.
7. Is there a different certification for different models?
No. Once you are certified on a product, you are certified for all the models in that line-up. BRP recommends, however, that you review the operator's guide for the specific model you are about to ride. You should also review the product checklist.
8. What are the criteria to become a group leader?
A group leader can be anyone in your group who is certified and can fill in and follow the three checklists provided in the Group Ride section.
9. Do I have to complete the product checklist?
The completion of the product checklist is optional, but strongly recommended.
10. Do I have to complete the Group Ride checklists?
If you are organizing a ride with four or more people, the Group Ride checklists can help you ensure your ride goes smoothly and follows all the safety recommendations.
11. Do I have to print and save copies of all these forms?
The list of certified employees is available for consultation. BRP recommends you send copies of checklists to your e-mail account. Where applicable, you should also forward them to the Group Leader.
12. What if I ride frequently with the same people – do I have to fill in these forms every time I ride?
The checklists are available to help you review important information. Common sense will dictate if you are familiar enough with the content to avoid filling or consulting them before your ride.
13. How do I send this information to non-employees? How can non-employees access this information?
The link can be sent to non-employees, who can acquaint themselves about their pre-ride requirements and access all the required documentation.
14. If we are 10 people including three passengers but only 2 are BRP-owned products, is it still considered a group ride?
This procedure applies only to BRP-owned products. However, the Group Ride checklists are a good way to safely organize a group ride for all.
15. What if I have an accident, or there's an accident during my group ride?
The Useful Links section gives you information on how to proceed in the case of an accident. It can be accessed from your smartphone.
16. I am a consultant at BRP. Am I considered an employee or not?
If you have a BRP network address, you are considered an employee for the purpose of this program and should complete the employee certification. If you are an external consultant, you should select "Non-Employees".
17. How do I treat a non-employee who is not an owner of a similar product but is a current user? Does s/he really have to go through the First-time user section?
Common sense will dictate if the non-employee is familiar enough with the content. However, if this person is not an owner, revision of the content included in the First-time user section is a good preparation for the ride.
18. Where are the waivers?
Unless it is part of the requirements for an already established event (such as Demo Tours, etc.) no waiver is required when an employee or a non-employee uses a BRP-owned product.
19. Do I need to be certified if I ride as a passenger only?
- YES, if you borrow a product regardless of if you will drive or not. For example, if you borrow the product from the float for a weekend.
- NO, if you will be only a passenger of a BRP organized group ride. However, in that case you need to be instructed by the group organizer of proper passenger requirements.
20. Why was the Responsible Rider program created?
At BRP, we believe there's an opportunity for everyone in the marine and powersports communities to come together and rethink how we approach safety, riding etiquette, and the environment. We pledge to promote positive change. That's why the Responsible Rider program has become a keystone of our social responsibility approach through action, education and community building. The Ride Safely self-certification, which has been in place since 2013, is part of the Responsible Rider program.
21. Why does my manager require specific product-related training other than self-certification?
Depending on the Health and Safety standards applicable in your region, BRP may set up a specific program on the use of products in the workplace, in addition to the self-certification requirements. Please contact your manager.
